Nintendo eShop “8-Bit Summer” Promotion Announced

During the Nintendo Direct presentation earlier this week, NOA confirmed a new promotion specifically for the eShop – similar to Xbox Live Arcade’s annual “Summer of Arcade” series. This eShop promotion will be called “8-Bit Summer”, and will bring a variety of Virtual Console titles from the NES, Game Boy, and Game Gear to the 3DS’s digital download service starting in July.

Here are the “8-Bit Summer” games you can look forward to:

  • July 5 – Legend of Zelda (NES)
  • July 12 – Kirby’s Pinball Land (Game Boy) & The Sword of Hope II (Game Boy)
  • July 19 – Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters (Game Boy) & Tumblepop (Game Boy)
  • July 26 – Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 (Game Boy)
  • August – Sonic Blast (Game Gear) & Sonic Labyrinth (Game Gear)

And, of course, the trailer that showcases each of the games:

What do you think? Are you planning to download any of these Virtual Console games? I already have Legend of Zelda – the very first free Virtual Console game I downloaded as a “Nintendo Ambassador” – but I would definitely like to check out Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters as well as Wario Land. To be honest, I could do without the Sonic titles – I really wish Sega would release a proper Sonic the Hedgehog game, specifically one of the Genesis installments. Everyone likes Sonic & Knuckles, right?
